Critical Discourse Analysis of Teun A. Van Dijk's Approach to the News "Herdiat-Yana's Victory in the Ciamis Regent Election Without Euphoric Party" in DetikJabar

Abstract

This study aims to describe critical discourse analysis using Teun A. Van Dijk's model approach in the news article entitled "Herdiat-Yana's Victory in the Ciamis Regional Election Without Euphoria" published in DetikJabar. The method used is descriptive qualitative with the main data source being the news text written by Dadang Hermansyah and uploaded on December 2024.. The data collection technique was carried out through document analysis, which included in-depth reading and recording of the news text. The results of the study revealed that three dimensions of Van Dijk's analysis can be identified in the news. First, the text dimension seen from the macro structure (main theme), superstructure (schematics), and microstructure (semantic, syntactic, stylistic, and rhetorical aspects) that build a narrative of victory without euphoria. Second, the social cognitive dimension that represents the process of text production by journalists, including mental schemes, prejudices, and ideologies that influence the angle of the news. Third, the social context dimension demonstrates how post-election political realities in Ciamis, such as a conducive environment and respect for the democratic process, influence how texts are produced and distributed to the public. Through this analysis, the study concludes that the news not only reports events but also actively frames reality with specific discourse strategies that reflect the media's perspective.
